Some people believe that it is a good idea that older people continue to work if it is possible for them to do.
Do you agree or disagree?
It is commonly thought that the idea of the elderly people to stay working after retirement is an accepted idea. Personally, I share this view because of two reasons: their financial need and physical and psychological conditions.
Many elderly are living under poverty after they retire from their professional jobs. This is mainly because many of them do not have enough savings to fulfill their daily needs. In Indonesia, for instance, many the retired-individuals live in poor conditions because they have lost financial sources, making them only depend on their children or relatives, and this leads to another problem, such as increasing financial dependency. Therefore, giving these old aged people a chance to be productive in their post-retirement period is not only helping them to meet their needs, but also lowers their dependency on their family members.
Furthermore, many retired people are fit in terms of physical and psychological condition, making them a valuable asset. Generally, these elderly people have substantial experiences and other skills which may not be possessed by the younger generation. Furthermore, older individuals often have a more stable psychological condition compared to younger individuals. Therefore, appointing them a position, such as a foreman in a construction site may bring a great benefit to the employers as they can lead all of the workers wisely.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the idea of giving chances for older people to have a productive life after retirement is a good choice since these people have mouths to feed and the majority of them have good physical and psychological well-being.
