Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
people have different views about whether the main purpose of achieving a foreign language is to study or travel abroad. While there were some evidence to show that most of those learners are truly aiming at this single reason, I believe that there must be more applications for a new language besides studying and travelling.
On the one hand, learning a new language can help us to make more access to the world in a colorful way. there are lots of literature works which record details of history in a country. With those recordings, we can know what happened on this land. Although most of those works have been translated and become popular among the world now, the fact can't be denied that translation might change its original meaning and then lead to a deviation. what's more, many works of art can also be understood only after acquiring its background.
On the other hand, studying languages is a tool to improve people in many aspects. Firstly, studying a foreign language helps people to train how to concentrate themselves on a boring task. Secondly, brain will be stimulated to remember and absorb new Information when we are keeping comprehending more words and sentences instead of understanding nothing new. Finally, a new language can not only encourage people to speak out, but also helps them to communicate and exchange ideas with people from different countries.
In conclusion, I can understand why people might support that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel or to work, but it seems to me that achieving to apply a language is much more useful and desireable in a life.
