In 1999, the revenue of Fairtrade coffee in Switzerland stood at 3 millions, followed by around 1.5 million and 1.8 million euros in the UK and Denmark accordingly. The lower figures were recorded in Belgium and Sweden at that time, with 1 million and 0.8 million euros in the order. After five years, the coffee sales in the UK saw a dramatic increase and reached a peak at 20 million euros while this figure in Switzerland witnessed a double increse from 3 to 6 million euros. The other data climbed by about 0.2 to 0.7 million euros.
Meanwhile, the number of Fairtrade bananas in Switzerland hold always the top rank recorded 15 million euros in 1999 which rose threefold after five years. This figure in the UK and Belgium rose quite negligibly from 1 to 0.6 million by comparison with 5.5 and 4 million euros, respectively. However, there was an inverse trend in the sale of banana in Sweden and Denmark, with 1.8 and 2 million euros in 1999 before going down 1 and 0.9 million euros in 2004.
