The chart illustrates three categories of products and services in terms of the percentage of national consumer expenditure in five countries namely Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002.
Overall, the ratio of consumer spending on food/drinks/tobacco in each country was the highest, while the leisure/education had the lowest figures in the table.
It is clear that Turkey had the highest proportion of consumer expenditure on food/drinks/tobacco at 32.14% compared to that in Ireland and Spain with 28.91% and 18.80%, respectively. The ratio of consumer spending on food/drinks/tobacco was 16.36%, 2 times less than that of Turkey. Besides, Swedes consumed the lowest figures on these items with nearly 16%.
Moreover, the percentage of national consumption on clothing/footwear fluctuate from 5.40% to 9% with the highest ratio in Italy and the lowest in Sweden. The rate of expenditure by leisure/education in Turkey, which stand at 4.35%, was 2 times as much as that of Spain, which stand nearly 2%.
