The table blow gives information about consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002

The table illustrates the expenditure on five different items of Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002.

Overall, it is noteworthy that five European countries paid most of their money for food, drinks and tobacco, while the lowest spending can be seen in the category of outdoor activities and education. Additionally, the outlay of Turkey was generally the highest among all.

In terms of food, drinks and tobacco, people in Turkey spent the most at 32.14%, followed by Ireland with 28.91%. Meanwhile, the spending on food in the remaining countries in the given table was under 20%, with Sweden ending at 15.77%, which was the lowest. Turning to clothing and footwear, 9% of Italian expenditure was composed of this item whereas around 6% of other countries’ outgoing was on clothes and Sweden spent the least at 5.40%.

Regarding leisure and education, this was the smallest proportion in all five different countries, with figures ending at under 5%. The outlay of Turkey accounted for 4.35%, topping other countries. In contrast, the lowest expenditure on these goods was in Spain, which constituted 1.98%
