The table shows the changes in modes of travel in a European country between 1995 and 2005. It also shows a projection to the year 2015.
The table compares the average distance traveled per person by five different means of transport in a European nation between 1995 and 2005, and its projection after 10 years.
As illustrated in the statistics, the distance by bus contributed by far the largest of the total distance in the years surveyed. While almost vehicles are estimated to show an upward trend in the distance traveled, bus is forecast to show an opposite pattern.
In the year 1995, inhabitants in this European country showed a preference for bus, whose figure was 56 thousand miles, accounting for 50 percent of the total . Despite being the dominated mode, the following decade will see a slight decrease to 42 thousand miles per person. In contrast, although a second-preferred transport, rail is projected to be used more, with the distance traveled marginally rising by 12 thousands. Rail will also replace bus to be the most favored modes of travel.
Airplane and bicycle shared the same average distance of 2 thousands in 1995. However, the following year is estimated to witness a sharp upturn of airplane when its figure will rocket to 20 thousand miles, tenfold of its initial figure. Despite this increasing popularity, the distance of this mode will only take up a marginal amount of the total. Bicycle and motorbike’ distance traveled are estimated to contribute the sum of a negligible 10 thousands to the total distance.
