Overall, it can be clearly seen that the UK was the most successful country for selling fair trade- labelled coffee and bananas throughout the period, while Sweden was in the least successful category over the year.
In detail, the number of coffee in the UK, with sales 1.5m in 1999, increased sharply by 20m in 2004, whereas Switzerland doubled its ratio from 3m in 1999, to 6m in 2004. Similarly, Denmark and Belgium increased their percentage by only 0.2 and 0.7 per cent in 2004. Sweden had the lowest figure for selling coffee compared to other countries, at 0.8 million in 1999, which increased minimally by 0.2 per cent at the end of the period.
Additionally, last year, the UK was on the top of the list in exchanges of bananas from 15m to 47m. Switzerland and Denmark experienced sharp growth in the number from 1m and 0.6m in the initial period to 5.5m and 4m in 2004, while Belgium and Sweden had the same pattern, their ratio decreased by 2 per cent in 2004 respectively
