The diagrams illustrates the development in the coastal zone of Brightsea from 1950 to nowadays, and also depicts the future expansion plan of the area.
Overall,it can be clearly seen that the growth of a region with only a few buildings into one with basic amenities over the 72-year period. Also, a well thought future plan will make the area more appealing.
In 1950, there were no roads at all, and only 4 buildings can be seen in the coastal zone of Brightsea - a lighthouse, a lighthouse’s keeper’s house, fishermen’s cottages, and a jetty. However, today’s coastal zone is much more developed with roads connected to all places, as well as a ferry wharf, and a small shop. A new cafe has appeared in the place of fishermen’s cottages, while the lighthouse keeper’s house has made way for a hotel.
According to the proposed plan, there will be a new ferry wharf in the southern area, and a sailing club will also emerge alongside with it. Moreover, the hotel will expand in an easterly direction, whereas the small shop will be reconstructed as a big supermarket with a car park. In addition, a new restaurant and apartments will overtake the land currently occupied by the cafe.
