The two graphs show the main sources of energy in the USA in 1980 and 1990.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the changes which occurred.
The provided graphs compare the proportion of 5 different types of energy sources in the USA between two years, 1980 and 1990.
A glance at the graphs reveals that most of the sources of energy experienced slight changes, except for hydroelectric power. In both years 1980 and 1990, oil took the largest slice of the pie graphs.
In 1980, oil accounted for nearly half of the amount of energy sources, while in 1990, the percentage reduced to only 33%. The second highest use of energy source in 1980 was natural gas with 26%; however, in 1990, it became the third due to a fractional decrease by 1%.
A quite different picture can be seen in the coal section. The proportion of coal rised from 22% in 1980 to 27% in 1990 making it the second highest use of energy source. In 1980, nuclear power accounted for 5% in 1980, which was equal with the amount of hydroelectric power. While in 1990, the proportion of hydroelectric power remains the same, the percentage of nuclear power increased by 5%.
