Given are two maps contrasting the layout of two offices, one Japanese and the other American.
It is conspicuous that the significant difference between Japanese office and American’s is the vacant space and working environment. Meanwhile, the latter is more likely to be cramped than the former owing to adding more facilities which is dedicated for their job. Besides, the communal work environment for staff is preferred in the Japanese style; whereas, private space is emphasised in American office for both employees and managers.
In the Japanese office, workers are divided into two groups of six people who sit parallel to one another and share a large rectangle table. Furthermore, each section manager locates in front of 6-worker seats and behind the position of department manager doing a favor for supervising staff working. Eventually, there is a window which is located behind the department manager’s position.
When it comes to a typical American office, meanwhile, has two windows on the left and right side. The right-hand side of the layout is occupied by two section managers and a department manager arranged adjacent from the north to the south,respectively. In the heart of the office, it has totally 8 personal working positions where workers from a section can exchange their work with the others. The left-hand place is utilized for several facilities including the printer copier, storage and two conference rooms while a typical Japanese office does not have.
