Waste disposal in one European country (2005 - 2008)
The bar chart illustrates the amount of trash was handled via landfill, burning and dumping at sea in a particular European country between 2005 and 2008.
Looking at the graph, it is obvious that while landfills initially were the most common way to treat waste, the least used burning method, the trend slowly reversed over the four years period.
In 2005, 1800 million tonnes of rubbish was disposed of landfills, compared to only about 500 million tonnes of garbage was processed by burning. However, over the examined time, disposing of waste to landfill less and less popular, the opposite was true for burning trash. The quantity of rubbish was handled through landfills strongly fell down 600 million tonnes, by 1/3 of original in 2008. Meanwhile, the figures for the sum of waste that was burnt rose slightly to around 900 million tonnes in the same year.
Regarding dumping at sea method, this figure remained relatively unchanged at 600 million tonnes before decreasing mild under 600 million tonnes.
