Writing task 1 The graphs show the changes in the UK industry steel between 1970 and 2000 n v million tonnes vs thousand

The given charts illustrate the total Demand, Production, Import and Employment Status changes in the UK steel industry between 1970 and 2000. In general, the initial impression is that the figure for Import rose markedly while the others reduced in the given period of time.

Regarding the value changes in the UK steel industry, the steel Demand stayed well-beyond the others at 200000 million tonnes, which is around 35000 million tonnes higher than the steel production in 1970. Twenty years later, both Demand and Production for steel witnessed a dramatic fall to just above 10000 million tonnes and nearly 8000 million tonnes, respectively. During the last ten-year period, both of them continuously decreased by 1000 million tonnes. Having the opposite trend, a gradual upswing was witnessed in UK Import from about 1000 million tonnes in 1970 to around 6000 million tonnes in 2000.
In terms of job prospects, the data dropped rapidly by nearly 30000 thousand in the first twenty years from approximately 50000 thousand. By 2000, this figure dipped to around 18000 thousand
