The given line graph compares the three countries namely USA, Japan, Sweden in term of the number of people who are over 65 from 1940 to 2020 with the projection to 2040.
From basic observation, there has been an upward trend in the percentage of these people of the three countries. Moreover, the figure for Japan witnessed the smallest proportion at the beginning before it is anticipated to have a growth during the last years of the period shown.
In 1940, Starting at approximately 10%, American was the country with the highest percentage of the old people, following by Sweden at about 6% and Japan at 5% respectively. From 1940 to 2000there was gradual leap in the percentage of the elderly in the USA and Sweden and then followed by a steady decline. Whereas, a slight reduction of 3% was seen in the figure for Japan over the same period. From the beginning of 2000 until the present, the number of Swedish elderly population likewise that in USA has had a small jump. By contrast, this figure for USA has witnessed no changes
Over the period of prediction from 2020 to 2040, the proportion of old people in the 3 countries experiences a progress. Especially Japan is planned to upsurge suddenly and become the country with the highest number of the elderly of the three countries at about 27% even though it started at the lowest point of all at the beginning. It is estimated that Sweden stands the second highest at 25% and American ranks the third at about 23%.
