The table illustrates the number of people going on international travel from 1990 to 2005.
Overall, it is clear that the number of international visitors to America decreased, but the opposite was true of the figures for the remaining regions. Besides, Europe recorded the highest number of folks traveling abroad over the period shown.
In 1990, Europe ranked first in the number of oversea sightseers with 280,2 million, followed by America at 80,5 million. The figure for America was 20,3 million higher than that of Asia and the Pacific and about four times that of Africa. Only 9,8 million foreigners victors chose the Middle East as favorable destination, which was the lowest figure.
In 1995, while the quantity of international tourists to Europe rose gradually and still took dominance with its figure reaching a record high of 390,3 million, the figure for America experienced a slight decline to 113.2 at the end of the period. In comparison, after a considerable increase for the first 10 years by over 8, 5 million, the figure for oversea backpackers to Africa slightly went up to 28.7 million to end to the period. Similarly, the figure for the Middle East climbed marginally by 3, 7 million, and continued to increase to 15, 8 million in 2005.
Strikingly, only in 2000 was almost the same data recorded in America and Asia and the Pacific.
