Write a reply to your friend. In your letter:
1. tell your friend you understand the problem
2. explain what happened to you in the past
3. Suggest possible solutions to the problem.

Hi John,
I am very glad to receive your letter after such a long time. I am more than happy to advice you on problem you are facing at your new workplace. In fact, I had trouble in recent past, so I will share my experience and solution.

As written in letter, you need to pull out some statistical data and create report from that. Also, If I understood correctly, that data needs to be represent in chart form as well. Actually, just before two weeks, I had to consolidate same sort of summary report and send it to my upper management. I have started collecting and preparing those analytical charts manually, but seems impossible to complete it on time without any automated tool.

Fortunately, after doing enormous research, I found one tool named "GoReport". Though it's a paid tool, its worth of money as it has very rich features for generate these kind of reports from historical data. I am very sure, this tool will help you to finish your task within day or so.

I wish you good luck and hoping to hear from you soon whether my given solution work for you or not.

Regards,
Paras
