Overall, it can be seen that the average CO2 emissions in United Kingdom and Sweden declined during 50 years. In contrast, there was the growth of CO2 emissions in Italy and Portugal in the same periods.
United Kingdom produced the most CO2 emissions in 4 countries and peaked of around 11 metric tonnes in 1967. Affter 10 years, there was no change in the quantity CO2 emissions. However, from 1977 to 2007, CO2 emissions decreased gradually and hit a low of more 8 metric tonnes in 2007. In Sweden, from over 8 metric tonnes in 1967, the amount of CO2 emissions climbed dramatically in 10 years and peaked off 10 metric tonnes in 1977. After that, the trend was downward with 6 metric tonnes in 2007.
In 1967, over average 4 metric tonnes per head released in Italy, compared to average around 1 metric tonnes per head in Portugal. Then the amount of emissions increased gradually and reached a high of under 8 metric tonnes in Italy and around 5 metric tonnes in Portugal in 1997. After that, the amount of CO2 emissions remained steady in both countries.
