The line graph illustrates data about how many people worked in three different fields of the British economy, over a ten-year period between 2000 and 2010.
Overall, there were upward trends in the percentage of people who were employed in the public sector and self-employed, while the private sector witnessed a significant fall in the employment rate during a decade in question.
As regards self-employed, there was a significant lower percentage of people were employed in it than in the other sectors of employment in almost all years, except for the last three years. The figure started at around 18%, after which it rose slightly to 20% in 2002. Having dipped marginally in 2003, the proportion then went up remarkably and overtook the percentage of the private sector to 30% in 2010. In terms of public sector, the percentage remained stable in the first two years at approximately 37%, after that it rose sharply until 2005, soaring to just under 50%. Despite dropping slightly in 2006, there was a gradual climb in the proportion of this sector, and it peaked at just over a half in 2010.
Around 48% of people worked in the private sector in 2000, which meant that considerably more people were employed in it than in the other sectors of economy. However, this figure went down steadily to 20% in 2010 and being the lowest point of the whole period.
