A local collage is having an international day. You want to speak about your country to students from different cultures.
Write a letter to the collage head. In your letter:
- tell him/her about topics you are going to talk about
- explain why they would be of interest to the students
- ask about any arrangement that you need to make to give the talk
Dear Mr. Smith,
My name is Ali Emadi and I am writing regarding the speech I am going to give on international day at collage hall.
First of all, I really appreciate this huge opportunity given to me to speak at this symposium. Let me inform you the topics which I have prepared for the speech. For the first part of it, I will give an introduction of the rich Iran's history with its traditions. Next, the two biggest and most celebrated Iranian's customs, 'Norouz' and 'Yalda Night' will be presented. As you might know, they are among the oldest traditions in human history. 'Norouz' is am event in which those cold and gloomy days of winter is eventually over and the spring with its green tress and colorful flowers has arrived. The next one, which is also known as 'Yalda Eve', is considered as the longest night of the year. At this special night, families gather together and they would eat Iranian's dish, read out some random poems from Hafez, a great Iranian poet, and enjoy it with their elder members of the family.
However, the reason that I have chosen these topics is that although people here in Canada might not celebrate it, yet it would be interesting to the students due to the fact that the majority of them are from different nations and they all study history in collage.
Finally, I would like to ask you about whom I should arrange my turn to give my presentation. I also wonder how much time do I have; I need to make sure that my context would be enough for the time available to me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you,
Ali Emadi
