More and more students are choosing to study at colleges and universities in foreign countries.
Do the benefits of studying abroad outweigh the drawbacks?
Studying abroad is becoming increasingly popular. Nowadays, the number of students are increasingly moving to foreign countries for their college and university studies. I believe it has more benefits than its drawbacks. This essay will discuss both sides of argument to support my opinion.
It is agreed, that studying abroad has many disadvantages. Firstly, students have to be independent enough to solve their problems on their own. This can be extremely difficult for an individual who has never stayed away from his family and parents. Secondly, students often struggles to adjust different cultures and languages which can creat stress and results in poor performance. For example, when I first moved to UAE for my post-graduation studies, I found extremely difficult to get acquainted with Arabic students and often struggled to interact with them due to which my performance in 1st year was not up to the par. In other words, studying overseas can be very challenging and disadvantageous if the student is unable to overcome this situation.
Despite this, studying overseas brings many benefits for a students. Firstly, the student who acquire degree from foreign universities has more skills to offer such as language and adaptability. Their job career is groomed in a multinational culture which gives them an edge when it comes to opportunities to work on higher position than those who obtained their degree from the local university. Moreover, studying overseas, improve an individual’s ability to view problems in a broader way because of their understanding of different cultures and languages, therefore they offer more practical and creative solutions. For instance, students moving from Asian countries to UK has more exposure of different cultures than those studying in the region. In other words, studying overseas offers numerous advantages such as language and adaptability skills.
In conclusion, although studying overseas has some drawbacks such difficulty in adjusting culture and language differences they are outweighed by its benefits such as developing language and adaptability skills. It prepares students to develop themselves at an international level.
