The table below gives information about changes in modes of travel in England between 1985 and 2000.
The table illustrates how many miles were traveled by British people in the 1985-2000 phase, divided into 9 categories.
The first prominent feature is that the average distance in the UK experienced an overall upward trend over the years. In addition, among all vehicle means, Car registered the most impressive figures while the least sizeable numbers belonged to Bicycle and Taxi.
In particular, people in England traveled 429 miles by Local bus in the former year and this figure decreased almost half to 274 miles in the latter year. This tendency was also shared by Trains and Other modes. Specifically, there was a 77-mile and 135-mile growth in traveling distance by these two transport types respectively.
On the lower end of the table, Taxi saw a tripling result over the course of 15 years starting in 1985 whereas there was an incredibly slight decline in the amount of distance by Bicycle which was only 10 miles. Another noticeable characteristic is that Long-distance Bus witnessed quite a significant growth which started from 54 miles to 124 miles in the year 2000.
