Essay topics:

You are going to another country to study. You would like to do a part-time job while you are studying, so you want to ask a friend who lives there for some help.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter

give details of your study plans
explain why you want to get a part-time job
suggest how your friend could help you find a job

Dear Ann,

I hope you and your family are doing well. As you already know, I'm going to travel to Japan for a year on a scholarship. My plane is scheduled to arrive at Tokyo International Airport on the 15th of August and I couldn't be more excited. My study program consists of six different classes which relate to Finance, The Stock Market and Accounting. I have to attend one session and one workshop every day with the exception of Sunday. I believe I'll have to study for at least three hours each day to pass the final exams.

With that said, I need your help finding a part-time job to cover my personal expenses since the scholarship only covers education and housing fees. So, I'm expected to have some income in order to pay for transport, food, clothing and such.

I'm very skillful at speaking Japanese, French in addition to English as my mother tongue. Maybe you can refer me to all your colleagues or study mates who might need to have books translated from English of French to Japanese. You can also refer me to your boss in case he is interested to hire a part-time interpreter.

I appreciate your help and can't wait to see you when I arrive.

Warm wishes

Mary Brown
