Doctors recommend that older people should exercise regularly. However, many of them do not exercise enough. What are the causes? What can be done to encourage them to exercise?
Having regularly exercise for the elderly is suggest by doctors, while particularly people of this age group are lack of physical activities. This issue emerges several causes and considerable solutions, which I will elucidate in the following paragraphs.
Regarding the causes, many older people are reluctant to exercise due to physical limitations or health conditions, making certain types of physical activities challenging. In reality, individuals in this age range may require professional caregivers to assist them with their daily activities. Furthermore, psychological factors such as a lack of motivation, fear of injury, or the belief that exercise is not enjoyable might hinder older persons from engaging in physical activity. A study published in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity stated that age-related health issues, including chronic illnesses, incapacity, and joint discomfort, often prevent them from exercising.
Turning to the solutions, enhancing knowledge among the elderly by explaining the various health benefits gained through regular physical exercise is an effective approach. For instance, simple activities like walking can boost the immune system and help prevent heart disease in seniors. Moreover, the medical expenses account for the most part of the old people daily spending. Thus, government subsidies for social activities for the elderly can provide motivation to put exercise as their top priorities. For example, Taiwan has implemented legislation to increase exercise incentives among retired people, aiming to improve global health rates.
In conclusion, the causes of insufficient physical activity among many older individuals stem from physical limitations and a fear of injury. Meanwhile, the effective solutions are promoting health education as well as providing exercise incentive.
