Essay topics:

It is becoming increasingly popular to have a year off between finishing school and going to University. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

After finishing high school, teenagers who will have to make a huge, life-changing decision to choose their University tend to take a gap year more and more. Students can have time to learn about themself, however, there are also drawbacks to be taken into account.

Firstly, one benefit of students choosing to take a gap year is that they can get more experience and knowledge about the world outside and their programs. These things can also be helpful when they look for internships or jobs after university. Secondly, taking a year off will help them to prepare financially before choosing their colleges. Students still have more time if they can get a job to earn money, which helps them prepare carefully for applying for scholarships or some financial aid. Thirdly, this time is so appropriate to stop learning and recharge or reflect on themself. It will interrupt the education path if they take a break later after going to University.

On the other hand, one problem is that it will be more difficult to transition back to school life after having a gap year. For example, if they spend a year working a full-time job, their study habits and their learning abilities will slide because of the less time they spend on learning. As a result, they will feel behind their peers when they come back to University, which may make students to have some mental health problems. Moreover, teenagers have to spend more time on planning unless they will waste more opportunity cost of a gap year.

In conclusion, while having a break after high school can have benefits for their decision, it can also be an obstacle if students don't prepare enough for this.
