People nowadays tend to take their family to another country when they work abroad. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
In this day and age, it has become common for people to take their families with them when they have to work overseas. While I acknowledge that bringing family abroad may have some drawbacks, I firmly believe that the benefits outweigh them.
On the one hand, living abroad can be highly advantageous for several reasons. One of the key benefits is that family members can gain access to superior education and a higher standard of living. If the spouse has the opportunity to work in a reputable organization with a lucrative salary, other family members can thrive in a better environment, with legal protection and fairness in various aspects. For instance, many families are migrating from developing countries to developed countries in pursuit of an improved quality of life. Another advantage is that many developed countries, such as the United States and Australia, have implemented suitable safety policies to ensure that migrants can adapt to new environments.
On the other hand, I would argue that the advantages of moving to a new country are overshadowed by the disadvantages. Foremost among these is the potential loss of cultural and traditional values. This is because families tend to adopt the cultural norms of the host country in their daily lives, gradually drifting away from the values of their home country. A recent study conducted by Cambridge University found that nearly 40% of children who moved to another country due to their parents' work have forsaken their own cultural traditions. Another drawback that should be taken into consideration is culture shock. Family members may have to cope with the challenges of adapting to a country with a vastly different culture from what they are accustomed to. Consequently, this can lead to various issues such as homesickness and irritation, significantly impacting their overall well-being.
In conclusion, despite the drawbacks associated with bringing family abroad, it is clear to me that the benefits far outweigh them.
