Some people believe that the only purpose of films is to entertain. Others say films should have educational value. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Recently, the modern film industry has strongly developed to fulfill different/growing/increasing needs of the audiences. While it is generally thought that films/motion pictures/movies provide nothing more than amusement, others believe they can be powerful educational tools. Personally, I opine that films/movies play a role in our educational formation because of their positive effects on people’s language learning progress and broadening their horizons.
To begin with, it can be understandable to some extent why many some people claim that watching movies is solely for entertainment purposes. When enjoying films, many viewers merely focus on the funny or attractive content with vivid and lively sounds and images that entertain them. These films are often easy to understand, in other words, their brains are not required to work hard. Therefore, the audience may not reap many substantial benefits from films except entertainment values.
Nonetheless, spectators can obtain innumerable educational values from films. In fact, movies have been exploited as an approach to learning languages for decades. By listening to the native actors' engaging conversations, learners can enhance their accent and intonation in a more pleasurable way compared to monotonous textbooks at school. Furthermore, viewers may enrich their knowledge through numerous types of films. For instance, documentaries such as the National geographical’s series provide their audiences fuller insights into different aspects of this mysterious world. Through enjoying documentary films, adults or even kids have a chance to explore the world without having to travel far distances. Therefore, the film industry is not only amusing their customers but also educating them through their purposeful pieces of artwork.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that movies play a crucial role in relaxing people. However, in my opinion, educational factors are also significant in films because of their beneficial effects on people’s language skills and knowledge.
