Task 1: The charts below show the performance of a bus company in terms of punctuality, both actual and target (what actually happened compared to what the company was trying to achieve) and the number of complaints from passengers.
The bar charts represent the punctuality of a company’s bus service by comparing their targeted and confirmed results and the data for complaining cases from 1999 to 2003.
It is clear that there was a downward trend in the proportion of buses arriving on time, while that of the proposed goal experienced a period of instability. Similarly, the number of complaints from their customers followed a volatile pattern throughout the period.
From 1999 to 2000, the percentage of the company’s target figure was exactly the same, at 86%, while the actual figure was 1% and 3% lower respectively. During the next three years, the actual achievement of on-time arrivals witnessed a considerable fluctuation, ranging from 84% to nearly 85% . Meanwhile, after remaining unchanged at 85% from 2001 to 2002, the figure for the desired target dropped significantly by 0.5% in the final year.
The number of dissatisfied responses was approximately 70 per thousand passenger journeys in 1999, the number of complaints made by commuters rose significantly to 100 people before experiencing a slight decline to just over 80 conplainers in 2001. This figure then grew considerably in two years later, with 120 passengers in the last year.
