WRITING: The world of work is changing rapidly. People today no longer take one job for life. Discuss the causes of these changes. What suggestions would you make for young people to prepare themselves for the work in future?
In contemporary society, it is irrefutable that the world of work is constantly changing and evolving to meet the demands of modern society. Therefore, job-hopping has become increasingly prevalent in both developed and developing nations. The following essay will elucidate major factors behind this as well as plausible ways to help address the phenomenon.
There are several reasons as to why fewer people are opting for long-term employment. Firstly, with the advent of technological advancements, a lot of employees are being made redundant and replaced by automated processes. For instance, millions of workers in many factories have become out of work as a result of the employers applying technological breakthroughs to their assembly line due to their considerable efficiency and great cheapness. On top of that, older people also fail to adapt to new developments or compete with a younger generation that is well-equipped with 21st-century skills, thereby leaving the job with a golden handshake to give way to a younger workforce. Secondly, with various career choices these days, opting for a permanent job seems to be an overwhelming decision for many youngsters who have yet to acquire relevant experiences. Being exposed to various fields, accordingly, would help them realize their strengths and weaknesses as well as the most suitable profession which fits their competence and interests.
However, there are a number of measures that the young could take to better prepare for changes in the workplace. To embark on, as technology is rapidly being applied to a wide range of career fields, young people must stay up with these changes. To accomplish this, specific courses should be designed to teach them crucial skills for their future careers, thus allowing them to secure a job and stand a higher chance of moving up the career ladder. But more importantly, individuals should not be afraid to make different career moves, but rather consider it as an opportunity to try new things and acquire new skills. That way, the young can always be mentally ready for future hardships.
By way of conclusion, changes in the career path are inevitable. Accepting the facts, staying ahead of the learning curve, and being open to any change are the best strategies to adapt to this new reality.
