Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology.

Universities offer various subjects to the students. While
every subject has its own appeal to students, many argue that only subjects
that will be useful in the future should be allowed for study. In my opinion,
students should be given freedom to choose any subject they like. This essay
will demonstrate why.

Pragmatic subjects are very important to study. The subjects
that can be applied in practical world, such as those pertaining to science and
technology, must be studied by a big chunk of students to keep the development
of this world running. Without proper merit and attention to these fields, the
world would stop evolving. And, it is true that a number of developed countries
have scarcity of students studying these subjects. These countries must either
take steps to encourage more and more students to enroll for studying these
subjects, or they need to bring immigrants from other countries to fulfill
their practical needs. For example, countries, such as Australia and Canada are
inviting a lot of immigrants in various quota to fill-up their needs of various
skilled profession, such as software development, medical science etc.

However, students should be still allowed to choose their
favorite subject. First, it is not at all productive for someone to study a
subject that he or she doesn't like. Sencond, many subjects that are not
apparently useful, have lot of implications and are necessary in the long run
for the better quality of life. Subjects, such as Art or History, is imperative
to uplift the psychological aspects of human life. For instance, a recent study
shows that countries spending more on education in Art and Culture are less
prone to encounter crimila activities. Thus, studying these subjects also
contributes to the stability of a country.

In conclusion, for the collective evolution of the humankind,
and for giving students a choice to make on their own, all the subjects shoudl
be available to them to choose from.
