Although it may seem for a good family and community life that young adults live with with their families for a longer time and keep the bonds stronger but I think otherwise. In my opinion it is better for young adults to want independence from their parents as soon as possible. This is because of multiple reasons.
The first reason is that it is very important that young adults begin to face life on their own as soon as possible as it will make them more resposible for themselves and help in their development as matured human beings. For example, I realized this situation in my own life when I went to a boarding school away from my parents in grade 9. In my very first year of living on my own I learned so many things which I never did before. I learned to wash my clothes, make my bed, keep my belongings safe and in order and also I began to travel on my own and making new friends and building new support structure taught me independence early in life. When I finally moved out of school to attend a College and lived alone in my own apartment I found myself in a much better situation to cope with the change as compared to the rest of my class mates in College. Once I started living on my own then I began to make new friends again, signed my own lease for apartment, kept my apartment clean, cooked my own food, went to my classes and finished my homework as a responsible adult. I knew that this College degree will help me develop in to a Professional and an integral part of the society and make my life successful. So I was able to push harder and get good grades and finish my degree in time without needing extra vacations to go home more frequently as some students did that were feeling homesick. Thus, it helped me achieve my goal of being successful in life sooner than some of my classmates.
The second reason that I think that it is better for young adults to want their independence from their parents is that it will help them develop critical thinking ability because of the mental maturity they will gain in the process. Although it seems difficult emotionally that young adults live separate from their parents from early on but in the long run it helps them develop into a more rationale, logical and well understanding person that not only understands themselves but others too of both emotional and maturity level. When we are young in life we are emotional and more attached to our parents and family. We feel special for our family and want that the family feel special for us too. We care for our family members and in turn receive care from them. This is a very helpful process to help raise a child into a young adult. However, if this process continues even after reaching the young adulthood then our further attainment of emotional maturity may be affected. I was born and brought up in India in a culture where close family ties and living together is held very important in the functioning of the society. Although, it helps at a emotional level to stay close to your loved ones but now after attaining adulthood and living in US for half of my life, I realize my myself as more understanding of human nature and behavior than some of my friends that are still living with or close to their family. For example, marital relationships are still considered as a social relationship instead as a personal relationship. As a result, if a person is not happy in their marital life then they may feel bound to a person for the rest of their life even if they don't feel the love. This is because at an emotional level people still do not understand individuality and only focus on collectivism and so may not help everyone.
