birds crash into transparent glasses
The reading presents some possible solutions to prevent harm to wild birds when they try to fly through the lass windows. The professor, however, challenges the ideas made by the passage and refutes them.
The first solution made by the author is to replace th etransparent glasses with one-way glass which is transparent in just one direction. To combact this suggestion, the lecturer proposes that one-way glass acts like a mirror which make the problem worse, because it reflects the sky and birds fly into that window, since they cannot distinguish the sky with that glass.
Furthermore, the writer brings up the idea that regular glasses can be painted with colorful lines or other designs like thin stripes, which enables people to see outside of the room through the openings. The speaker, on the other hand, posits that it should be taken into acount that the birds perceive those openings as hole through which they can fly, unless the holes are extremely small which make the room inside the window dark.
As another feasible solution, the article asserts that an artificial magnetic field could be generated to guide bird away from the buildings. Conversely, the lecturer highlight that birds utilize their magnetic ability for navigation during long distances. It is not used for going from one side of the city to other side. In this case, the lights and their eyes assist the birds to find their way.
