certify wood products
The reading and the lecture are both about certifying wood. Whereas the author of the reading states that many companies would not certify their wood for several reason, the lecturer suggests that certified wood will help wood companies. The lecturer casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the article, many consumer loss trusts on advertising so even if the company says that their wood is certified they will not buy it. However, the lecturer disputes this point. He says that American consumer will trust any independent agency. Furthermore, he mentions that consumer will be convinced if the advertised product is certified.
Secondly, the passage states that the value of the wood would be higher than uncertified ones by that the consumer will not buy it. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. He argues that value is not the first thing American consumer sees. In addition, he points out that consumer think about the value if the price difference in much higher in fact if the difference is low, they tend to buy the expensive.
Finally, the reading claims that the wood company certify their wood will not make sense unless the company is planning to sell in foreign countries. On the other hand, the lecturer believe that it is not true. He thinks that the company should think about the competition and the future. Moreover, he feels that foreign companies might come to USA and destroy the companies who have not certify their wood yet.
