Dinosaurs are endotherms

Essay topics:

Dinosaurs are endotherms

In the reading material, the author cites three reasons to support his viewpoint that dinosaurs are endotherms. Nevertheless, the lecturer in the listening material argues that these reasons can't prove dinosaurs are endotherms, and opposite the point of the reading material.

First and foremost, the author argues that dinosaur fossils in Polar Regions were one of the reasons that dinosaurs are endotherms because living in such a cold environment requires animals to have the ability to maintain their body temperature. However, the lecturer offers an opposite stand that Polar Regions can be much warmer than today, warm enough that even not endotherms can live there, and when the weather is cooling down, they can also migrate to a warmer place or hibernate.

In addition, the lecturer cast doubt on the author's other point that dinosaurs have legs underneath their body, same as all other modern endotherms, demonstrating that dinosaurs have this body structure to support their heavy weight, and large body size can benefit dinosaurs.

Finally, the author's third reason that dinosaurs have Haversian canals, which indicate dinosaurs are endotherms is also counteracted by the lecturer who points out that dinosaurs also have a growth ring, which indicates that during cooler period, dinosaurs grow slow or even stop growing, while endotherms can still grow rapidly even in cold weather.
