Eco certification and American wood companies Integrated

Essay topics:

Eco certification and American wood companies (Integrated)

The lecture differs the passage at more than one points mentioned.

Firstly, the passage mentions that consumers don’t pay much heed to advertising since a lot of products have ‘new’ and ‘improved’ adjectives used for them which doesn’t make a lot of difference if a product is mentioned as ‘ecocertified’. The lecture mentions that eco certification is important and consumers do care if a product is certified by an independent consumer agency.

Secondly, the passage mentions that eco certification would cost the company more, which in turn is reflected in the selling price of the product, increasing the price of the product. Therefore, the consumer would not prefer to buy the expensive product. The lecture contradicts this by saying that price only matters if the competing product price range is extremely high or low to the given product. If the product falls under the same range, say five percent, then consumers would prefer a product that ecofriendly because a lot of American citizens do care about the environment.

Lastly, the passage talks about how American wood companies have enough wood business with their own citizens to not care about foreign market. But the lecturer’s message says otherwise. The former mentions how if the American product does not maintain it’s standards according to foreign competition, foreign companies would slowly start to capture their audience as well, which in turn would affect their business. So to keep up with international markets is equally important and certifications like these would be a major bonus point for them.
