Although both the reading and the listening passage deal with the same topic: the relationship between dinosaurs and endotherms, their prospective are different. While the author of the reading passage believes that dinosaurs are kind of endotherms, the lecturer casts doubt on the writer’s idea. He thinks that dinosaurs are not related to endotherms.
The first point made in the reading passage is that polar dinosaur fossils are founded in Polar Region, which was extremely cold. Therefore, creatures living there must have the ability to maintain their body temperature to alive in such conditions ,which is consistent with endotherm’s feature .On the other hand, the lecturer contradicts the writer’s idea and asserts that polar region, in fact, is a warm area. Moreover, he argues that the dinosaur often migrates or hypernates in cold season. Therefore, there is no evidence of concluding dinosaur is endotherm.
Another point in the reading passage is that legs underneath dinosaur’s body support its feature as endotherm. It is mentioned that the legs under the body helps creatures to run fast. However, the lecturer refutes this argument and claims that dinosaurs’ legs are not used for running. He puts forth his idea by saying that legs support the dinosaur in its big size and weights, which is not related to running.
The last point made in the reading passage is that Haversian canels in bones makes the case that dinosaur is endotherm. The article notes that Haversian canels improve the growth of creatures. On the contrary, the lecturer claims that dinosaur’s bone improves with growth spring. He elaborates on this by clarifying the word growth spring, which means grow in season . Therefore, the characteristic of dinosaur is inconsistent with that of endotherms.
