Habit of Reading

Essay topics:

Habit of Reading

The author of the passage mainly expresses the concern that the habit of reading less in the present generation of people has negative effects not only on the reading public, but also on the whole culture as well as on the future of literature. Surprisinlgy, the speaker seems to be at odds with this particular point of view by contending every of one her arguments, establishing that just because there are fewer people reading the literature doesn't necessarily mean it can cause such huge impact.

As the author attempts to substantiate her argument with the case of negative effect on reading public, she goes on to elaborate on the issue by explaining how reading intellectual books such as literature can actually improve a person's wisdom and creativity. S/he is concerned that this would decrease if writing habits were decreased. However, this specific concern is oblirated by the speaker as she tries to illuminate the audience that the intellectual improvement doesn't only depend on the literature as there are diverse range of sources to do so.

Moving further, when the author raises the second point on how the time spent reading literature is actually being spent in distractions such as self help books and Television, has in fact affected the culture badly, the lecturer raises the objection in regard of the limitation of culture put forth by the essayist. She asks the quesiton if validity of a culture is so narrowly specified by the literature alone but is there no such things contribution of music or songs, thus dismissing the second point of the passage.

Now, it these contentions were not enough to justify the weakened statement of the writer already, the orator takes one final step by dismissing the argument that there are less investors for the good literature due to decreased number of people reading it, which is supposedly a threat to the future of literature. The lecturer brings light into the fact that it is the writer's fault if his/ her books are not getting good market due to thier own poor quality content, suggesting there is no such threat due to mere decrease in readers.

It is in this manner that the speaker dismisses the author's all of the concerns of reading public, culture and the future of literature on after another, thus establishing there is need of no such concerns.
