memoir of Chevalier de Seingalt is not accurate
The lecture responds against the consideration made in the passage which believes that the memoir of Chevalier de Seingalt is not accurate. The professors talks about the evidences which helps to believe that the memoir might be accurate.
First point she mentions is about his life in Switzerland. It is considered that he has borrowed money from the merchant and was never truly rich. But the professor explains that even though you have the property and you have to make money out of it, it has to be sold. This process takes considerable amount of time. Thus for time being he would have borrowed the money from the merchants.
Second point explains about the conversation of Chevalier with the famous writer. Critics believes that one can not remember minute details of the conversation after years of it. But the professors mentions about the records of the evidences that, Chevalier has used notes while writing his memoir. Thus it is quite possible that he would have taken the notes every night after the conversations which helped him to remember the minute details of the it.
Third point discussed is about his escape from the jail in Venice, Italy. It is claimed that he might have strong political contacts those helped him to escape. But the mention of the records by the government of Italy makes it to believe that the roof was tampered and then the sealing of roof was repaired. Also the example of other prisoners who had more powerful friend could not escape the jail supports the proof.
Thus the points professor mentions makes us to understand that she does not support the reasons mentioned in the passage about the inaccuracy of the memoir. The evidences mentioned in the lecture support her opinion.
