In the reading section, it proposes three reasons for replacing the “let it burn” policy by using the example of Yellowstone big fire. However, the listening section giving three reasons rejects the reason provided in the reading.
First of all, the author mentions that vegetation and countless trees were damaged by this big fire in Yellowstone. On the contrary, the speaker believes that the damaged plants would be covered by some new and more diverse plants. This is because it provides an opportunity for new plants to grow. For example, some seeds need a high level of heat to grow, so this big fire lets them grow!
Additionally, the professor does not agree with the writer saying that this big fire brings a huge problem for many wild animals, by saying that this big fire also creates an opportunity for many animals to grow, like plants. For example, some plants are replaced, so it creates an ideal habitat for some animals, like rabbits. In this case, some predators will eat rabbits, so the new food chain is created.
In the end, reading utters that the fire will cause serious negative effects for the local tourism. However, listening believe only when this big fire happens every year will cause stay away visitors. Because that year the weather was very dry and hot with so many big winds, all of these factors combined together, so this big fire was created. However, after that year no such combination happened again, so this kind of big fire would not be created again.
