otter decline
The reading and the lectured are both discussing the decline in the number of sea otters. The passage states that environmental pollution is the main cause of this decline. However, the lecturer contradicts this claim. she believes that predation hypothesis is more convincing.
First of all, the passage states that the Alaskan coast has some known pollutants such as oil and chemicals which threaten the life of otters. In contrast, the lecturer believes that this is a weak hypothesis, she explains that if pollution was the main reason then at least there should be some otter bodies washing up on the shore , but this is not the case.
Secondly, the lecturer claims that predation is the main reason. The lecturer states that the lack of otter dead bodies on the shore can be explained by predation, such that the predators usually eats the otter without leaving evidence. the lecturer argues with the passage when it states that whales are the main meal of orcas nad not otters , she explains, beacuse whales disappeared, the orcas changed their meal into an otter .
finally, the passage states that the uneven spread of pollutants on the coast explains the uneven pattern of otter decline. However the lecturer contradicts this point, she states that orcas are big animals and they are not accessible to shallow and rocky places where the number of otters is found stable , she adds that the places where orcas are accessible have a decline in the number of otters.
- the lecturer talks about the disadvantages of reducing working time the passage talksabout the benefits of reducing work hours 76
- Do you agree or disagree with the following statement At universities and colleges sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support Use specific reasons and examples to support your ans 71
