Professors are normally found in university classrooms offices and libraries doing research and lecturing to their students More and more however they also appear as guests on television news programs giving expert commentary on the latest events in

The reading and the lecture are both about universities' professors appearing on TV as guests on television news program to give their expert comments, the author of the reading feels that this is a good thing for three reasons. The lecturer however, challenges the author claims. She is of the opposite opinion that it is not a good thing.

First, the author of the reading argues that by appearing on TV they acquire reputations as authorities in their academic fields. the article mention that when a professor publish his or her work in a academic journal; he or she wont have that wide audience compared with TV. this argument is challenged by the lecturer, she claims that when a professor appear on TV he is not taken seriously, and researchers among other people would think of his as an entertainer.

Secondly, the author of the reading suggests that it is good for the universities to have their professors appearing om TV as the public will think high of them. and overall this will encourage student to enroll and people to donate more money to the universities. the lecturer rebuts this thought by pointing out that the time needed to prepare and practice and the appearance it self would cost the universities valuable time which will affect the research outputs and quality and make the professors less available for the students.

Lastly the reading point that the public would also benefit from having professors giving them deeper and trustworthy knowledge,however the lecturer does not agree with this, saying that the viewers are not interested in this type of a deep knowledge in the best cases professors will not provide more than a reporter who had done his homework.
