A recent study reveals that people especially young people are reading far less literature—novels, plays, and poems—than they used to. This is troubling because the trend has unfortunate effects for the reading public, for culture in general, and for

The article states that young reader nowadays are reading fewer literature books, and that has negative effects on public reading and the culture in general. However, the professor refutes each of the article points.
First of all, the reading avers that nothing except the literature can provide intellectual stimulation to the reader because literature exercises the imagination of the reader's brain. However, the professor says that it is not plausible to say that literature books only improve the imagination of the readers' mind. There are many books on other fields such as science and political books can enhance creativity and imagination. That's why; we can not assume that the literature books only that have a positive effect on the reader intellectuality.
Secondly, the reading claims that young people prefer reading self-help books, and these kinds of books are written with poor quality and superficially. Also, in the past, the literature readers were challenging each other with literature as a source of entertainment, but nowadays people have turned to the TV as a source of entertainment. However, the professor says that cultural valuable materials are not written. Culture practices have changed. There are many forms to express culture like music and novels,
Thirdly, the article states that in the past people used to give attention to the talented literature writer, but nowadays there are many talented writers with a low audience. However, the professor declares that we should not blame the readers because the writers are using difficult words in their writing and they are too hard to understand. Therefore, talented writers have few audiences because they are using out-dated words.
