Changes in environment brings about the decrease of frog species and population, which will have bad impact on ecosystems where they are living. The author presents three solutions to the problem, all of which are considered ineffectively by the professor in the lecture.
First off, preventing farmers from using pesticides which is harmful to frogs is dismissed by the professor. Because farmers make a living with the crops, they may lose a large number of those when pesticides are not allowed to use and cannot compete with other farmers who use them. That is why the professor thinks it is not an economically practical and fair way.
As for to protect frogs from being infected with fungus thickening their skin, the professor points out every frog need to be treat with medication, which is too complex and difficult a work to finish. Also, the medication cannot be inherited by their offspring, as a result, the medication would have to be applied again and again.
Last, the professor does admit that frogs' habitats like lakes and marshes should be protected. Nevertheless, what destroys their habitats is not due to human activities, instead global warming is the most important threat. Thus, the situation is not likely to change by strict regulations on water use and development.
