Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rembrandt because of its style, and indeed the representation of the woman’s face is very much like that of portraits known to be by Rembrandt. But there are problems with the painting that suggest it could not be a work by Rembrandt.
There are few points made by the reading that the painting is not made by Rembrandt. On the contrary, the lecture opposed those views by the results from complete re-examination.
Firstly, the reading believes that since Rembrandt is famous for his attention on details, the painting cannot be produced by him since the woman in the work wears a servant kind of top but also with an expensive fur coat that a servant cannot afford definitely. Instead, the fur coat was added after Rembrandt done the work a hundred years later. To increase the painting's price, someone painted a fur coat to make it looks more formal advocates by the lecture.
Secondly, the light and shadow is not clear in this painting while Rembrandt was excellent on it. The lecture opposed the opinion made by the reading since before the white fur coat was added, the light and shadow was explicit in the work.
Lastly, the wood panel in the work was been enlarged to make the work more valuable. However, the original wood used to make the panel was found as the same as a piece of work made by Rembrandt which can be an evident that the work was made by Rembrandt.
