The reading and the lecture are both about a colonization theory, wich is believed that is was established in an island on the Atlantic Ocean and the people that stablished there were from England. The author states that this colony disappeared all of the sudden, but the lecturer refuses this way of thinking saying that it might not be true for many reasons.
In first place, the author mention that it is a fact that the colonists moved to a near island when their leader White traveled to England, in fact, the author affirms that they moved to the Croatan island. However, the professor rebuts this argument by saying that the Croatan island has been research already and nothing about a colony or some clue about this theory has been found.
Secondly, the reading points out that the word ¨Cro¨ has to do with croatan. Furthermore, it is believed that the carvings were made by the colonits in order to indicate their location. Nevertheless, the lecturer refuses that, stating that the word ¨Cro¨ actually has many meanings.
Finally, the author is sure that this colony moved far away. But the professor conveys the idea that the colonits might mixed with another tribe near the place they where living, since proofs have been found in the 80´s century about a tribe that was called ¨Croatan¨ and they were living near a river.
In conclusion, the author and the lecturer have different ways of thinking, and they do not agree in almost nothing.
