The reading passage present some evidence indicating that genetic modification can improve productivity and resistance of trees. The lecturer, nonetheless, throws doubt on all the ideas brought up by critics and offers some counterclaims to refute them all.
First the author argues genetically modified tree tolerate harsh situation better that nature tree. Conversely the lecturer takes the view that this fact this not true in all condition also those trees are uniform which induce can withstand just some special problem. For example if climate change or new pest attach to the envoirnment, genetic modification does not work.
Furthermore, the reading highlight the thought that genetically modified trees are cost-effective for farmer because they grow faster and are more productive. The professor, on the contrary, underlies the fact that although these tree are productive but there is some hidden problem that bring about some extra cost for former. For instance they can not cultivate regular seed and former has to buy seeds from company every year so it is not economic as like sound.
Finally, the author brings up the idea that use of genetically modified tree is envoirnmentaly friendly because it exclude deforestation for firewood or timber building. In contrast, the speaker dimisses this issue due in large to the fact that this kinds of tree make more damage to nature because genetically modified trees are more aggressive so make a competitive condition in sources such as sun light or water.
