summarize the points made in the lecture about traveling to mars and its complications, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific reasons mentioned in the reading about mars mission obstacles.
The reading suggests three possible problems that can hinder the traveling to Mars unlike the moon mission. However, the professor in the lecture strongly believes that although it may seem to be challenging, there is a good chance to travel to the Mars planet. She mentions three reasons to support her claim and refute the concerns made in the writing.
First, the article explains that unlike the astronauts’ trip to moon, there would be some limitations about food, cargo and oxygen supply in mars mission. In contrast, the professor demonstrates that they could use hydroponic system for cultivating enough food for their longer period of time which they have to spend on mars. Also, the water that is used for irrigation and plants growth can be recycled and reused by the passangers of the vehicle. This can generally provide appropriate amount of crops for a long trip.
Second, the passage regards that astronauts would face serious medical issues during this long travel, since their muscle mass is going to decrease and they may experience lower bone densities. On the other hand, she indicates that scientists now are capable in implementing various techniques to prevent these severe side effects from happening. Astronauts can take vitamins and minerals which can compensate for the losses they may endure during periods of long trips.
Third, the reading assumes that there could be so many radiations present in the spaces near mars which can be dangerous to the passengers. In contrary, professor implies that the degree of radiation would be still in the standard range normally. Moreover, they can put light weight radiation shields for protection of the passengers that can reduce the exposure significantly.
