Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they respond to the specific points made in the reading passage.
In the reading passage, a considerable number of opponents argues that the box-shaped device will not be successful in fighting against desertification. The lecturer, however, holds a divergent attitude. Through relevant reasons and examples, the lecturer extensively refutes these unconvincing reasons mentioned in the passage and substantiates her point that this device will be useful.
First of all, the lecturer argues that the device can be reused which means it can be used to help grow more than one tree. According to the professor, this device can be used 20 times or more. As a result, the price of growing each tree will be much lower, which will be affordable.
Second, the lecturer suggests that the local people can receive positive reward from this device. The water conserved by the devices also be used for other plants such as their food. Also the growth of trees can provide them more fire wood. Taking all these merits in to consideration, these local people will be motivated to install and maintain the devices .
Finally, the lecturer points out that the devices can help trees to grow long roots which enable them to reach the moist soil under ground. Consequently, trees are able to survive even without these devices. The collected data reveals that more than 90% of these trees can still survive after 2 years since the devices were removed.
