Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
Both the reading and the lecture are about the modification of office work duration. The reading is of the point that company could get more benefit by reducing the work days per week for the employee. While the lecturer doesn't support this idea for three main reasons which I will elucidate below.
First of all, the author of the reading feels that decreasing the workweek would increase company revenue to the higher as it would alleviate the stress from the employee. He additionally holds the idea that company would rather increase the staff to ensure the compensation of work. However, the man in the conversation doesn't support this idea. He is of the point that, company acquiring more staff would be quite detrimental because it requires the firm to spend some extra money on furniture and computers. In addition to this, he also argues that more staff means to spend more on training programs and also extra amount of medical benefits would be required to ensure the safety of their personnel.
Secondly, the reading passage argues that employee would feel much better having the four days work week. On top of that he also feels that this would be quite beneficial in terms of decreasing the unemployment as company can hire more staff and pay only 80 percent of the normal rate. But, the lecturer doesn't support this idea. He thinks that, although there are some staff who would love to be paid at lower price but there are some other employee who doesn't choose to work 4 day per week. He also points that, company might ask their employee to work overtime to ramify their work to ensure stability at their organization.
Lastly, the author of reading passage feels that most of the employee would choose to spend more of the leisure time with their family and devote their holiday for the leisure activities. However, the lecturer contends this idea. He feels that, spending more of the time for personal activities would be risky and it may also reduce the quality of life. He additionally says that during the time of crisis company might be asking their staff to quit their job especially for those who are working 4 days workweek, which would be quite detrimental for the progress and advancement of their career. And also, company might prefer to choose the personnel for the management post who can give the best of their time towards work which in case of 4 days working staff would not be possible.
