The reading passage and the lecture are both about humpback whales may be use navigation stars to migrate long distance. Whereas the author of the reading states three evidences to support that whales using navigation stars for migrate. The lecturer cast doubt on the main points in the reading by provide three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading whales are smart animals so that level of intelligence helps whales to navigate the stars. However, the lecturer disputes this point . He says that their are animals they have average intelligent level even though these animals use star navigation to migrate such as birds. Furthermore, He claims that their is no connection between intelligent level of animal and using stars to navigation.
Secondly, the reading states that humpback whales have an external force help them to migrate in straight line, tis force is use stars for navigation. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. He argues that humpback whales depend on earth magnetic fields of the earth since they have a compounds in their brains can sense the magnetic field of the earth.
Finally, the reading claims that humpback whales depend on spy-hopping to see stars. On the other hand the lecture believes that their are animals such as sharks using spy-hopping even they do not migrate. Moreover, He adds that whales sometimes do spy-hopping during a day when there are no available stars in the sky or to hunt food from the sea surface
