What the reading passage and lecture both debate about is whether using airships could be more popular compared to other means of air transportation. While the passage shows three advantages of using airships, the lecture, however, challenges all the points made in the passage.
First of all, while the passage claims that airships are more economical for the less demand for fuels due to their ability to float for vertical lift, the lecture demonstrates that they need other types of fuels which make them hard to deal with safety and budget. The lecture points out that airships need Hydrogen and Helium as fuel. Hydrogen can catch fire easily so that it has already caused many tragic disasters. Also, Helium is expensive and needs vast amount to support power for airships to work. Therefore, both of these fuels can cause problems for propelling airships.
Secondly, although the passage mentions that airships are practical in carrying loads at hard-to-reach locations, the lecture claims that airships are too unstable to be used in these situations. The lecture shows that airships are too unstable to take off and load heavy things such as tree logs in forests so they have to be even more careful. In addition, they are too light so that they can be interrupted by wind easily and eventually damage trees.
Finally, the lecture holds an opinion toward the usage of airships as a replacement for satellites which is mentioned in the passage that it is still not reasonable. The lecture points out that airships can fly high up to fourteen kilometers maximum, and this height is claimed for very strong wind. Therefore, to resist strong wind and keep an uninterrupted condition to be used as equipment of telecommunication as satellites, fuels have to be loaded and refilled frequently on airplanes.
