Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the advancement in the transportation within the trade sector. The author of the reading states that container ships are old fashioned and companies are now introducing humanless cargo ships which is benefial for trade in many ways. The lecturer disagrees. He mentions crewless ships are more dangerous to operate and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
Firstly, the author begins by stating that ships generated by itself diminish the wages for labour. In addition, the sum for their fooding and lodging can aslo be removed eventually companies can be benefited. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends nowadays there are ships available with few crews and having staffs in ship is very crucial for the inspection and maintainance for the obscure ravage that might occur while operating.
Secondly, according to the reading passage, humanless cargo are less likely to be attacked by the pirate. Additionally, ships including precious materails are suceptible to be steal by the outsiders and aid them to make enough money but having automatic ship could prevent from this awful situation. The speaker on hand points out that advanced level technology can detect each and everything about the ship such as where, how and when it is going. Morever, they can crash the ship with the assistance of guidance system.
Finally, the reading passage notes that cargo ships are contolled by the sensor and computer thus making it less volunerable to accident. Furthermore, even if uncertainty situation occur, they can react frequently and manage repair. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that once the ships are initiated towards its destination, it is very complex to change the course of direction. Therefore, in case of emergency it can immediately control its direction resulting more viable to get accident. In other hand, this won’t be the case with ship maintained by human as they can suspect and be ready for the future emergency.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds very conflicting views on th advantages of autonomous ship. The speaker effectively challanges the writer’s argument.
